SecureMySocial Logo

New York, NY - March 7, 2017 - SecureMySocial, a leading provider of social media security software, is proud to announce that it has once again been named to the Cybersecurity 500, a global compilation of the 500 leading companies that provide cybersecurity solutions and services. In the Q1 2017 report, SecureMySocial moved up to spot 319 on the list.

The Cybersecurity 500 includes a wide range of prestigious firms, ranging from the largest and most recognizable brands in the industry, to venture-backed emerging players, to small startups with potentially game-changing technologies, to solution providers poised for growth around productized or vertically focused services. The list is updated and published quarterly by Cybersecurity Ventures, after research that includes continuously looking at thousands of companies, soliciting feedback from CISOs, IT security practitioners, and service providers, and analyzing hundreds of cybersecurity events and news sources.

SecureMySocial offers technology that protects businesses and their employees from the risks of inappropriate social media usage. The patented system warns users of social media in real time if they are making posts that could harm themselves or their employers, even if such posts are made from home or from mobile devices. SecureMySocial can also auto-delete problematic posts if so authorized. By offering SecureMySocial to employees, businesses may reduce their exposure to data leaks, spear phishing, bad publicity, human resource issues, lawsuits, and regulatory fines.

“CISOs and IT Security professionals at business of all sizes can no longer ignore the fact that criminals are exploiting social media as an attack surface and as a resource from which to gather information to be used in social engineering attacks,” said Steve Morgan, founder and Editor-In-Chief at Cybersecurity Ventures. “SecureMySocial was an early player in the space, and now has a patented, easy-to-use platform that protects enterprises from data leaks, reputational harm, regulatory and legal problems, and other issues that result from employee use – and misuse – of social media. Information security executives should put SecureMySocial on their short list of solutions to look at in this burgeoning category addressing a growing risk,” added Morgan.

“We are delighted to, once again, be recognized as one on the leading cybersecurity firms globally,” said Joseph Steinberg, CEO of SecureMySocial. “SecureMySocial’s patented, game changing technology enables firms to leverage the true power of social media – including having their employees serve as de-facto brand ambassadors – while protecting both businesses and their employees against all sorts of blunders. In addition to protecting against data leaks, reconnaissance done by criminals for the purpose of crafting spear phishing emails, and all sorts of other information-security risks, SecureMySocial can also help stop people from sharing fake news, making career-threatening tweets, and posting all sorts of other content that can damage their personal brands and those of their employers.

Humans: Perhaps The Most Dangerous Element of CyberSecurity

Think about how much technology has improved in the last decade, 50 years, or even century. It is startling. Items that were science fiction just a few years ago seem like outdated, obsolete technology today.
Yet, during this period of great technological advancement, the human brain has not changed: it remains essentially identical today to the way it was several thousand years ago. The human-technology dichotomy does not go unnoticed by criminals: Because cybersecurity technologies are rapidly strengthening, whenever possible, parties trying to breach information systems increasingly seek to exploit human weaknesses, rather than carry out strictly technological attacks.
On both a personal and professional level, therefore, it is essential for people to understand the human element of cybersecurity.

Inc.: CyberSecurity Predictions For 2017 - The Experts Speak

"2017 will bring more of the same problems that we saw in 2016, because this past year's attacks delivered great results for hackers. Last year, I predicted that in 2016 "criminals, nations, and anyone else seeking to hack will continue to exploit social engineering as a primary means of digital 'breaking and entering'" - why would anyone stop doing so when that is exactly how, according to the CIA, FBI, and NSA, Russia breached the DNC? Why would anyone stop using techniques that work so well? As part of the social engineering trend, we will continue to see oversharing on social media leading to spear phishing leading to breaches - hopefully, businesses understand this risk well enough to take proactive action. Likewise, Internet of Things (IoT) security - which clearly became an undeniable problem with Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks this past year - will continue to be a big issue; with so many people buying cheap, insecure devices, there will ultimately be a price to pay. On another note, women continue to make growing inroads in the cybersecurity profession - hopefully this trend will continue. We still have a long way to go." - Shira Rubinoff, President of SecureMySocial
